What does LGBTQQ mean?

Purpose of the Committee

The UW LGBTQQ Advisory Committee is responsible for advising the university’s various constituencies on matters of interest and/or concern to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered, queer and questioning people in the campus community. UW has a reputation for providing an open, accepting and welcoming environment and it is important that this philosophy be extended to its LGBTQQ members.

Specifically, the Committee will advise the University on:

LGBTQQ issues as they relate to the UW campus
Pro-active measures that may be needed to improve the level of acceptance and understanding of LGBTQQ issues
Changes to and development of policies
Educational programs
Accessibility of resources and level of assistance to LGBTQQ members of the UW community
Other relevant issues

The LGBTQQ Advisory Committee needs input and comments from members of the UW community, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. The Committee meets approximately once per month. There are two ways you can participate even if you are not a committee member:

Email any of the members. If you require confidentiality, please email the Committee Secretary and indicate your request for confidentiality in your message.
If you would like to address the committee at the next meeting, please email the Secretary with your request to be placed on the agenda.

Makeup of the Committee

The Committee has 8 permanent positions:

Associate Provost for Human Resources & Student Services
Director of Conflict Management and Human Rights
Vice President Internal from the Federation of Students
One graduate student appointed by the president of the Graduate Student Association
Three undergraduate students appointed by the Vice President Internal from the Federation of Students (one of whom must be an active volunteer with GLOW)
Co–ordinator from the Student Life Office

Additional positions may be added or removed from time to time, as deemed appropriate by the committee. Vacant positions will also be identified on the committee members chart.
